Estonia opens up online casino market

More and more countries are beginning to relax their online gambling laws.

There are obvious advantages to them doing this as it allows a government to keep a close eye on gambling activities, hopefully stamping out sharp practices which often go hand in hand with the gambling business and thus eliminating companies that may be running illegal gaming. These are the sort of companies which may encourage players into gaming they cannot afford.

Estonia is one of the latest European countries to open up its market.

Online gambling became legal a month ago.  At present only a few casinos are licensed and they must be within Estonia itself.

Next year, however, the online casino market will be opened to foreign operators, thus making the market more competitive.

The Olympic Casino Group was one of the first companies to be granted a license and it is currently offering over 150 online games.  The company employs around 2,000 people in Eastern Europe.

We must hope that the New Zealand government will look into the popularity of online casinos and see fit to allow some online gaming companies to operate legally within the country.
