Online casinos offer weekend bonuses

The weekend is a very popular time for online gambling because many people have such busy lives during the week they don’t have time to relax and enjoy other pastimes.  For this reason many online casinos will offer customers new bonuses, for greater weekend fun.

This follows on from the news that the number of Americans playing at online casinos has risen, in spite of the draconian measures taken by the US to outlaw online gambling.

Other countries, including New Zealand, have seen similar patterns in online gaming.  Of course, this increase does mean that land based casinos have suffered a loss of customers.

A survey conducted by Mintel, a UK based market research company, found that 12% of adults who responded had visited a gambling website in the past 12 months, and that 30% had gone to a land based casino in the past year, compared with 35% in 2001.

In line with gambling habits in New Zealand and the US, the 25-34 year olds are the most likely to gamble.

Interestingly 55% of those who said that they used online gambling sites and/or had visited casinos said that they expected to lose.

This may show that the increase in online casinos is not encouraging problem gamblers, and in the main people gamble in the same way they would treat any other leisure activity, that is, just for fun.
