Online gambling TV ad starts in NZ

One of the best known online gambling names, Pokerstars.com, began a television campaign in New Zealand this week, just as the FBI in America decided to clamp down on three online gaming sites.

Online gambling has been illegal in the US since 2006, but many states are working towards opening up interstate online gambling, mainly as a way of raking in taxes and making up for the shortfall in land-based casino revenue.

Pokerstars.net, however, remains online, offering free to play games, although it does feed through to their other site.  Pokerstars sponsors an Australasian Poker tour, which includes a leg which is played in Queenstown.

It is unclear whether the TV ads have been paid for, but everyone who enjoys online gambling must be heartily fed up with the mixed messages that are coming from the States.  There are, however, many online casinos that are available to Kiwis who like a flutter.
