Gambling Grants Benefit Schools

Sports seem to be the biggest earners when it comes to gambling grants, but schools also receive some very generous donations from casinos and pokies clubs. Recently, it has been announced that the Sky City Queenstown Community Trust has awarded over $21 000 to schools in the Lakes District.

Children who attend these schools will now have access to new toys, textbooks, musical instruments and software thanks to this very generous donation. Queenstown Preschool and Nursery bought playground equipment with their funding while St. Joseph’s school was able to expand its art department buy new musical instruments. Queenstown Primary school was able to purchase iPads for its library and Remarkables Parent’s Association bought equipment for sporting events.

“Recent funding cuts in early education mean it has been quite a struggle to update resources,” she said”, says Pam Maclean of the Queenstown Preschool and Nursery.

In New Zealand, it is difficult for schools and education programs to raise money for anything that goes beyond basic necessities. Children need extracurricular entertainment, and the Community Trust donations will ensure that students receive a well-rounded and enlightening education.
